BUILD54 Hackathon Rules & Code of Conduct

The BUILD54 Hackathon is designed to create a collaborative, inclusive, and innovation-driven environment where builders, innovators, creators, and problem-solvers can develop solutions that create meaningful impact.

All participants are expected to follow the guidelines below:

Eligibility
  • The hackathon is open to individuals and teams passionate about technology, innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship, and solving real-world challenges.
  • Participants must meet the minimum age requirement stated for the event.
  • Participants do not need to represent a company or organization to join. Students, developers, designers, innovators, entrepreneurs, and first-time builders are welcome.
Team Participation
  • Participants may work individually or collaborate in teams.
  • All team members who contributed to the project should be included in the final submission.
  • Collaboration, respect, and teamwork are highly encouraged.
Project Requirements
  • Participants are encouraged to build innovative solutions addressing real-world problems.
  • Projects may focus on any area including technology, AI, education, healthcare, sustainability, business, social impact, or other problem-solving fields.
  • Solutions should demonstrate creativity, innovation, feasibility, and potential impact.
  • Participants are encouraged to develop their projects during the hackathon period.
Submission Requirements

All final submissions must be completed through Devpost before the stated deadline.

Submissions should include:

  • A clear project description explaining the problem, solution, and impact.
  • A demo video showing how the solution works.
  • Relevant project links where applicable (prototype, GitHub repository, website, presentation, or documentation).
  • Accurate team member information.

Late or incomplete submissions may affect eligibility for judging.

Originality & Integrity

Participants should submit their own work and properly acknowledge any external tools, technologies, resources, or open-source materials used.

The use of existing technologies and tools is allowed, but participants should clearly explain their contribution and innovation.

Judging

Projects will be evaluated based on criteria such as:

  • Innovation and creativity
  • Problem relevance
  • Impact potential
  • Technical execution
  • User experience
  • Presentation and clarity
Code of Conduct

BUILD54 Africa Foundation is committed to providing a safe, respectful, inclusive, and harassment-free experience for all participants, organizers, mentors, speakers, volunteers, and partners.

Everyone is welcome regardless of background, identity, experience level, nationality, beliefs, or technical ability.

Participants are expected to:

  • Treat others with respect and professionalism.
  • Encourage collaboration and positive communication.
  • Respect different opinions, ideas, and experiences.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive environment for everyone.

Harassment, discrimination, intimidation, inappropriate behavior, or disrespect toward any participant or community member will not be tolerated.

Participants who violate this code of conduct may face appropriate action, including removal from the hackathon at the discretion of the organizers.
